Major news networks carry news of gun violence/shootings nearly every day, often combined with the news of record gun sales!
Is it to convince the public that the number of crimes and murders involving guns are reaching epidemic proportions?
But wait — what’s this news from the Justice Department as seen on page A6 in the May 7 Union Bulletin? A dramatic drop in gun violence over the past two decades is being reported with firearms-related homicides declining 39 percent and nonfatal firearms crimes falling 69 percent.
Also, according to the Justice Department report, fewer than 1 percent of criminals convicted of possessing a firearm while committing a crime obtained the firearm at a gun show. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention more people in all age brackets from 1 year old on up die from injuries due to motor vehicles than guns.
Perhaps the president and others supporting gun-control legislation have not seen these government statistics.
