Motorists in Walla Walla and Garfield counties between today and June 2 can expect to see law enforcement patroling city and county roads in search of unbuckled drivers and passengers and drivers using their cellphones.
Last year at this time officers on routine and extra patrols statewide issued 3,171 seat belt violations among the 11,047 motorists who were stopped. They also cited motorists for 1,059 cellphone violations.
Local and Washington State Patrol officers will team up in these extra patrols, with the support of the Walla Walla County Traffic Safety Task Force as part of the statewide Target Zero campaign.
