Inmates helped in getting Vets in shape

It was fun to read Jim Buchan’s column on the transformation of Veterans Memorial Golf Course in last Sunday’s paper. I have been telling my out-of-town golfing friends and relatives about the course in the same glowing terms!

In addition to Mike Rostollan and Bill Griffith, their students and the city workers, there was another group of men who contributed to this fabulous upgrade.

Jim told me he didn’t know about the dozen or so minimum security inmates who were bused to the course by a correctional officer each morning for a week or so. They repaired all of the sand traps on the course. They also did a great job!

Since my time on the links is very limited, I have not been up to speed on the course. Just curious, what was cause of the de-gradation? Lack of man power? Failure on a contractor?
