Terry “Whitey” and Barbara Dickerson of Milton-Freewater will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary on June 2, 2013.
Whitey and Barbara met while both served in the U.S. Navy, stationed at the Naval Base in Norfolk, Va. They wed on June 2, 1973, in Audubon, Pa.
Barbara’s maiden name is Train. Whitey was born in Gainesville, Fla. and Barbara in Ridgewood, N.J.
Whitey served in the U.S. Navy Seabees from 1970-1978. They lived in Norfolk, Keflavik, Iceland, and San Diego.
When Whitey was discharged he went to work for the U.S. Forest Service and was with them for 30 years, retiring at 56. He currently works in maintenance for the Walla Walla Airport. He enjoys working and being outdoors.
Barbara served in the U.S. Navy from 1971-1974, then moved with her husband to his various duty stations. She worked at the VA hospital for several years and in 2004 at age 53 went back to school and earned a nursing degree. She currently works at Providence St. Mary Medical Center. Barbara enjoys working in her garden, researching genealogy and her animals.
The Dickersons enjoy riding, reading old Westerns and being with family.
They have a daughter, Lennie Dickerson of Longview, Wash.; a son and daughter-in-law Chris and Denzella Dickerson of Milton-Freewater; and four grandchildren.
