WENATCHEE — The Walla Walla men’s soccer team downed NWAACC East Region foe Wenatchee Valley 2-1 Saturday.
The Knights opened the scoring, as Wenatchee Valley’s Williams Pineda connected on a score in the fifth minute. The Warriors knotted the match in the 10th minute, however, as Max Smith found the back of the net.
The game remained tied until the 28th minute, until Michael Mollay scored the deciding goal.
Walla Walla racked up 13 shots on goal compared to only two for Wenatchee Valley. The referees were active in the game as well, as the two teams combined for eight yellow cards — six by Wenatchee Valley.
With the win, the Warriors clinched the East Region and improved to 10-0-3 in league play and 13-1-3 overall.
The Warriors are off until Friday when they host the winner of the Chemeketa-Whatcom match in a second-round playoff match.
