Tsuji highlights Whitman’s all-conference selections


WALLA WALLA — Whitman College senior midfielder Junpei Tsuji has been named to the All-Northwest Conference men’s soccer first team, as selected by coaches, leading a group of Missionaries who received postseason honors.

Defender Cooper Schumacher and midfielder Jesse Mirman were named to the second team, while midfielder Alex Barsher and goalkeeper Stuart Ellsworth received honorable mention.

Tsuji, who was a second-team selection last season, scored four goals this season.

Schumacher, who has been named to the second team three straight seasons, scored two goals on the season and provided stellar defense on the back line.

Mirman scored two goals on the season and added an assist. Barsher was third in the conference in goals with 11 and Ellsworth ranked sixth in goals against at 1.37.

Carson Swope of Puget Sound was named Offensive Player of the Year and fellow Logger Colin McIntosh was named Defensive Player of the Year.

Reece Olney of UPS received Coach of the Year honors.
