SPOKANE — Walla Walla’s “midseason slump” continued here Wednesday as Spokane swept the Warriors 26-24, 25-22, 25-9 in an NWAACC volleyball match.
The loss dropped the Warriors to 5-3 in Eastern Region matches and 17-9 overall.
“The disappointing losses are mounting up,” WWCC coach Tim Toon said. “Spokane is a good team, but we played right with them in the first two games with a chance to win them both. Untimely errors let our chances to win slip away.
“We are in a bit of a midseason slum right now and it will be up to the sophomores to improve their skill and leadership to help us secure a playoff spot,” Toon added.
Jalisa Jose and Breanna Mehling topped WWCC’s statistics chart. Jose had an all-around game with eight kills, eight digs and four blocks while Mehling led the team with 17 assists and also contributed six digs.
Chantel Zamora posted a team-high 12 digs and Delaney Fisher was right behind her with 11. Kiendra Chester put down six kills to go with a pair of blocks, Denise Comfort and Jade Byce chalked up five kills apiece and Libby Davison finished with four kills.
The Warriors travel to Ontario, Ore., for an NWAACC crossover tournament that begins tonight and continues on Saturday.
“We will be able to experiment with our lineup this weekend,” Toon said. “We’re hoping to find the right combination to take us the rest of the way.”
