Irish net victory over Indians


TOUCHET — DeSales opened its volleyball season with a hard-fought, five-set victory over Touchet here Tuesday night.

The Irish prevailed 25-21, 27-29, 17-25, 25-17, 15-5.

“It was a great first match,” DeSales coach Hailee Rogers said. “Both teams fought hard, and there were some great rallies!

“After we were down two sets, I was afraid the girls might fold, but they didn’t,” she said. “They came back strong and finished the last two games, and I was really proud of them for that.”

Teresa Acock recorded four kills and 24 digs for the Irish.

Renee Roach was 19-for-19 serving with four aces, and had two kills and nine assists; Alyssa James put up six kills and two blocks; Claire Conley had seven kills and two blocks; Hannah Leahy recorded seven kills and eight digs; Elizabeth Ruthven came up with five kills and nine digs; and Allesyn Lyons dished out 13 assists and had 11 digs.

“I’m excited to build from here and continue to see improvement,” Rogers said.

For the Indians, Kylie Maycumber was 22-for-25 serving with eight aces, and also picked up 12 digs.

Cierra Jo McKeown recorded nine killsand three stuff blocks, and dished out seven assists; Rachel Miller had eight kills and three stuff blocks; and Harlie Schaefer handed out 17 assists.

“It was quite a battle tonight,” Touchet coach April Miller said. “We missed far too many serves, but our hustle and teamwork are coming together.

“I thought we were were matched up tonight,” she said. “It was good to get the girls out there playing again.”

DeSales returns to the court at Weston-McEwen at 6 p.m.

Touchet heads to the Waitsburg-Prescott tournament Saturday, with pool play beginning at 9 a.m.
