Lois Eileen Kind

July 21, 1931 – September 14, 2013

College Place resident, Lois Eileen Kind, 82, passed away September 14, 2013, at Regency at The Park, 420 SE Myra Road, College Place, Washington.

Lois was born July 21, 1931, in Bagley, Michigan to Walter W. and Crystal O. (Butterfield) Wachter. She received a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Milwaukee in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

On September 8, 1951, she and Arnold C. Kind married in Michigan. She was an elementary school teacher and school counselor, retiring in 1992.

Lois was loved by many, generous with everyone,

a foster mother and a surrogate grandmother. She

touched the lives of many through her counseling

and teaching. In her retirement, she continued to

counsel pro bono at a more-than-average workload.

She traveled to Russia, Egypt, Israel, Alaska,

Hawaii, Guatemala, Panama, and numerous

European countries.

Lois loved her family, including many foster

children; loved her husband who preceded her in

death; and loved her many friends. She opened her

heart and home to friends, guests, and people in

need. Every Sabbath, a large group of various guests

would gather at her table for dinner.

Lois will be missed by her children, grandchildren,

great-grandchild, people she befriended, people who

knew her, those who went to her for advice, sisters

and brothers remaining, and extended family. She

was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Those left to mourn her loss are her daughter,

Cindy Brown; two sons: Chuck Kind and Brian Kind;

four sisters: Ellenor Watkins, Arda Blevins, Maureen

Zimmerman, and Sharon Ervin; her brother, Delbert

Wachter; six grandchildren: Jennifer Henderson,

Johnny LeMaster, Charlie Kind, Patrick Kind, Mandy

Kind and Stephen Kind; one great-grandchild, Berlin

Henderson; and two foster children: Gail Kader and

Joseph Lafayette and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her

husband; three brothers: Howard, Don and Paul and

her sister, Adeline.

The memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday,

September 17, 2013, at the Stateline Seventh-day

Adventist Church on Stateline Road. Pastor Mike

Lambert will officiate. Inurnment will be in the

Prairie Home Cemetery, Waukesha, Wisconsin.
