Walla Walla man arrested after assault on retirement community resident

WALLA WALLA – Police arrested a 22-year-old man Saturday after he assaulted a 56-year-old resident at Affinity at Walla Walla.

According to Tim Bennett, spokesman for the Walla Walla Police Department, officers were dispatched to the retirement community for reports of a prowler attempting to break in. When officers arrived, they reported, they saw Jason H. Beeman punch another man.

Bennett said officers quickly “placed the suspect on the ground.”

Witnesses reported Beeman attempted to break into Affinity shortly before 7 p.m. through a back door before entering through the main doors. He then demanded money and began swinging at a 56-year-old man. Bennett said the victim tripped, and Beeman began assaulting him on the floor.

After officers took him into custody Beeman continued to behave violently and attempted to spit on officers multiple times, according to Bennett.

Police also discovered that Beeman had reportedly given a threatening note to a server at Applebee’s restaurant shortly before the assault at Affinity.

Beeman was arrested on investigation of first degree robbery, first degree burglary, second degree assault, third degree assault and harassment.
