College Place – George Adrian Burton, 94, passed away Sept. 15, 2013, at Eagle Springs Assisted Living Community, 550 E. Whitman Drive, College Place.
George was born Dec. 13, 1918, in Chanute, Kan., to George Albert and Ruth E. (Meeker) Burton. He attended elementary and high school in Tulsa, Okla. In 1973 and again in 2007, he and Gladys H. Minden married in College Place. They lived for years in Deer Park, Wash., moving to this area in 1997.
George served during World War II as a B-24 pilot in the European Theater, 15th Air Force. During his final years, he served in home-care nursing in Palm Springs, Calif., and in College Place through the Department of Social and Health Services of Washington. He was a member of the Village Seventh-day Adventist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Burton; his daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and Otto Eggers of Roseburg, Ore.; his son and daughter-in-law, John A. and Patty Burton of Callahan, Fla.; his two step-children, Ed Minden and Virgil Minden; one sister, Mary Evelyn Lyon of Tulsa, Okla.; three grandchildren, Greg Burton, Michelle Haugen and Eric David Brooks; six great-grandchildren, Aleisha Burton, Keiya Burton, Cole Burton, David Paul Wagoner, Alexander Merlin Brooks and Branden Daniel Brooks; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Christine Blakestad.
Inurnment with military honors will be 9:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 SE Mt. Scott Blvd., in Portland.
