Weston-McEwen slices through BMC foes

STANFIELD, Ore. — Weston-McEwen kept its Blue Mountain unbeaten streak alive here Saturday in volleyball action. The TigerScots swept Union 3-0 and completed the doubleheader sweep with a 3-0 win over Stanfield.

“We played well today,” TigerScot coach Shawn White said. “We had a good week and are showing constant improvement in all parts of the game.”

W-M handled Union 25-14, 25-18, and 25-8 to open Saturday’s play.

Molly vonBorstel led the way with 14 kills, 11 digs, 23-of-23 serving with three aces. Taryn Coffman ran the show with 28 assists and three blocks. Lacey Kuehn blasted seven kills. Betsy West led the blockers with four blocks. Natalie Arnold led the returners with 15 digs and Dannie Dearing added nine digs to go with an 18-of-18 serving performance.

Stanfield was up next and the TigerScots completed a run of six straight set wins with a 25-12, 25-11, and 25-6 defeat of the Tigers.

vonBorstel led the hitters against Stanfield with 10 kills. Coffman put up 24 assists, Melanie Sederburg had four aces to go with a perfect 14-of-14 from the service line, and Dearing was 19-of-19 serving with eight aces. The TigerScots combined to serve 21 aces for the match.

The TigerScots (8-0 BMC, 18-1 overall) travel to John Day Saturday to face Grant Union and Irrigon.
