ATHENA — Four errors quickly turned into six unearned runs for the Weston-McEwen baseball team against Stanfield on Tuesday.
The Tigers took advantage of the TigerScot miscues, as they captured a 9-5 nonconference win.
Lance Thacker got the start for W-M, as he went four innings, allowing just one earned run on four hits. Justin Burke relieved Thacker and tossed two innings of one-hit ball before Chuck Simmons finished the game.
“(He) threw the ball pretty well, but defensively we had several errors behind him,” W-M coach T.J. Haguewood said of Thacker. “Burke came in and did a great job for a couple innings, and then Simmons did a good job to close it out. (We) hurt ourselves numerous times with defensive miscues.”
Thacker finished with two hits, including a double and two RBIs. Bobby McAllister finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
The TigerScots face Grant Union on Saturday.
