Irish girls lose to Sunnyside Christian

SUNNYSIDE, Wash. — DeSales’ girls’ offensive inconsistency continued here Monday, as the Irish hit just 11-of-60 shots in a 51-33 non-league loss to Sunnyside Christian.

“We get it going a little bit for two or thre games in a row, and then we have a stinker like last night,” Irish coach Tim Duncan said. “I can’t explain it.”

The Knights jumped up to a 15-4 lead after the initial eight minutes and never were threatened. They led 27-14 at half and cruised to the victory.

Stormee VanBelle led the way for Sunnyside Christian, scoring 20 points and grabbing 14 of the Knights’ 44 rebounds.

“She’s a player,” Duncan said of VanBelle. “She’s a very athletic 6-footer. She’s tough to handle.

Teresa Acock led the Irish with 11 points, with Emily Baumgart scoring seven and nabbing six boards.

DeSales, 13-4 overall and 7-1 in Southeast 2B League play, can clinch the top spot in the SE2B with a victory Thursday over Walla Walla Valley Academy on the Irish court.

Duncan just isn’t sure which Irish team will take the floor.

“We a tale of two teams,” he said. “Offensively, I don’t know which one is going to show up on any given night.”
