Grace E. Ferguson

Grace E. Ferguson, Milton-Freewater, passed away Dec. 10, 2012, at her home at the age of 86 years. Memorial services will be Saturday, Dec, 15, at 2 p.m. at Christ the King Luthern Church in Milton-Freewater with Pastor J.J. Dygert officiating. Private inurnment will be in the Milton-Freewater Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Christ the King Lutheran Church through the funeral home.
Grace was born Sept. 16, 1926, in Catlettsburg, Ky., the daughter of George and Margaret Linan Blackhurst. She grew up in Kentucky and after graduation from high school, she attended the Spencer Hospital School of Nursing. After her nurses’ training, she joined the U.S. Air Force on Oct. 10, 1950, she attended flight nurses training and became a certified flight nurse. Mrs. Ferguson served during the Korean Conflict. On June 28, 1957 she married Wayne A. Ferguson in Aviano, Italy. After the death of her husband June 16, 1968, she moved to Milton-Freewater. She worked for the Walla Walla Clinic, retiring but working part time there for a few years. Mrs. Ferguson enjoyed handcrafts, cooking and yard work. She was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Tedd Walters of Ontario, Ore.; a brother, George Blackhurst of Logansport, Ind.; two grandchilden (her angels), Molly Walters and Darrick Walters both of Ontario, Ore.; a nephew and his wife, Jim and Gloria Wood of Maryland.
Mrs. Ferguson was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Karl Ferguson; a daughter, Margaret “Peg” Wilson; several brothers; and one sister.
